ATTOLLO has been accepted to take part in the United Nations Global Compact Ambition Accelerator Programme. The programme is an initiative that supports participating companies by helping them to set ambitious corporate targets and integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into their core business management.
The scheme mobilises governments, civil society and businesses to adopt one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The goals include no poverty, zero hunger, affordable and clean energy, climate action, responsible consumption and production. According to the UN, the goals are gaining momentum, but still need to accelerate at a faster speed and scale in order to deliver on the 2030 Agenda – a resolution to achieve the SDGs in the next ten years. The so-called ‘Decade of Action’ calls for accelerating sustainable solutions to the world’s biggest challenges, ranging from poverty and gender to inequality and climate change.
According to the UN, businesses need to move beyond incremental progress and incorporate transformative change if they are to shift towards the 1.5 degree trajectory and achieve the SDGs by 2030. Through the local Global Compact networks in over 60 countries, companies are being urged to assess their current performance, identify opportunities and take ambitious action.
QHSE Lead at Attollo, Ale Ramirez, says “We are excited to be able to take part in the United Nations Global Compact SDG Ambition Accelerator Programme. This will allow us to work alongside other esteemed organisations with the same goal of deepening our integration of the SDGs and Ten Principles into our core business management framework, business strategies and operations in order to contribute towards a more sustainable future”.
The Sustainable Development Goals are the world’s action plan for fair globalization and a better future for all. The United Nations is calling on all sectors of society to play their part, on three different levels: global action to secure great leadership; local action to ensure that the framework is embedded in policy, institutions and budgets of local authorities; and people action to continue a groundswell of movement pushing for change.
